Scars

It is the poem composed by Anudeep Dewan. As the title suggests it is a poem that deals with the injury which leads to pain in life. Scars itself is a stain left after due to an injury. The poem deals with the post-earthquake situation in Nepal. It tries to explore a tragic and pathetic situation of Nepalese people with reference to Kathmandu City.
The poem opens with the scene of Jamal Kathamandu just after the earthquake of Baisakh 12, 2072. The poet finds the tree of Jacaranda blooming, as usual, giving fragrance standing still beside the road. When the massive earthquake of the 7.8 rector scale hit the area, everything in Kathamandu valley got affected. Many people were killed in their own homes. Many of them were severely injured and their life has been ruined. Hundreds of houses were completely collapsed whereas thousands of them were partially cracked. The earthquake destroyed innumerable buildings and monuments. Many historical, archeological, religious and cultural sites were destroyed by it.
Kathmandu was a beautiful city. It is the city known as the city of temples in the World. But, after the earthquake, the city has turned into an ugly place. The roads have become impassable because of scattered bricks and broken dividers. There are fallen walls, gates and iron rods of the devastated buildings. The environment has become dusty and the roads are almost invisible. Life has become difficult and painful. The beautiful city has turned into an ugly city. Many temples that are religiously and archaeologically significant have been either completely or partially damaged. The historical buildings which are listed in the World's heritage like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Square Durbar, Lalitpur Durbar Square, The Swayambhu Nath, etc. have been badly affected. Dharahara stood still and tall at the centre of the city but it has been smashed and no more now. Many people would climb it to have the view of beautiful city but it is only in memory now.
The poet wants to fill the empty space with his words and is writing this poem. He wrote this poem in the memory of these things and he doesn't like to lose them in his memory.
The post-earthquake situation of Kathmandu is really worse. It seems as if it is a ship which has lost its way and wandering in the sea to get the harbour. It has become so ugly and it has lost its treasures. The sufferings and pains caused by the earthquake have remained like a scar that is uncurable.
